Al Shaqab Racing's AL RUFAA Continues Run of Form
London, July 25 (QNA) - Fresh off his win at Kempton a fortnight ago, AL RUFAA, who is trained by John Gosden for Al Shaqab Racing, continued his run of form when taking the Newmarket Volunteer Handicap over seven furlongs on Friday, 24 July. The three-year-old colt was taking on older horses, for the first time in his five-career starts, in this race, which was reserved for three-year olds, and older horses. He was partnered by his regular rider Robert Havlin,
There was some contact between horses coming out of the stalls and AL RUFAA took a keen hold from the off, as he has done on both his starts this year. Settled towards the rear by his jockey, the bay colt began making up ground in the final two furlongs. Taking the lead from SWIFT APPROVAL at the last furlong mark, AL RUFAA never looked back to win pulling away by an impressive three-length margin from SWIFT APPROVAL, who is trained by Phil McEntee and was ridden by Grace McEntee. ROYAL DYNASTY was further two and a quarter lengths behind in third under Tom Marquand.
AL RUFAA ran twice as a 2-year-old and won his second start. This was his third run as a three-year-old, for two consecutive wins having run too keen on his seasonal bow.
AL RUFAA is by leading sire KINGMAN and was bred in France by Jean-Pierre Dubois, one of France's top breeders. He was bought at the Arqana August Yearling Sale from Haras des Capucines in 2018. (QNA)
