Bowlers Rafiq, Li Jane Headed To The Philippines Sea Games

KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 18 (Bernama) -- 2018 bowling world champion, Rafiq Ismail, and national bowler Sin Li Jane, have made the cut for the 2019 SEA Games in the Philippines this November. The participation of the athletes who won gold in the 2017 SEA Games mixed doubles event was announced by national coach, Holloway Cheah, at a Team Malaysia for the 2019 SEA Games press conference at the National Sports Council (MSN) in Bukit Jalil Wednesday. Six more bowlers will be picked by the Malaysian Tenpin Bowling Congress (MTBC) after the organiser of the biennial event announces the lane pattern. He said Rafiq and Li Jane were announced beforehand because they are experienced in all kinds of lane surfaces. “We’re trying to assemble together the best team, but unfortunately information on the lane pattern hasn’t been released yet. This is the main issue in bowling. So we’re looking for the best player based on the lane pattern,” said team manager, Maradona Chok. He said four men and four women will be selected compared to 12 players in the past. “All teams have an equal chance with the four female, four male configuration. Our main rivals could be Thailand, Indonesia and Singapore,” he added. With MTBC’s four-gold target from nine events, Holloway said he is being very careful with his pick. During the 2017 SEA Games in Kuala Lumpur, the national tenpin bowling squad won seven gold out of the 11 in play, four silver and three bronze medals. -- BERNAMA
