Cambodia Eighth Destination Of 2017 KL Rising Together Baton Run

KUALA LUMPUR, April 21 (Bernama) -- The Rising Together Baton Run which is being held in conjunction with the 29th SEA Games and Ninth ASEAN Para Games or Kuala Lumpur 2017 (KL2017) will continue in Phnom Penh on Saturday. Malaysian SEA Games Organising Committee (MASOC), in a statement Thursday, said the baton run involved a distance of nine kilometres, starting from the Malaysian Embassy there. According to the statement, the baton run would pass through several iconic Cambodian places such as the Independence Monument and Olympic Stadium on Charles de Gaulle Boulevard. "Cambodian national athletes from numerous sports including para athletes will together take part in the run to enliven it further,” said the statement. The Malaysian delegation to Cambodia would be headed by Youth and Sports deputy minister M. Saravanan and will be joined by Youth and Sports deputy secretary general Haslina Abdul Hamid and MASOC chief executive officer, Zolkples Embong. At the end of the run in Phnom Penh, the baton would be handed over to the representative of the next host, namely, Indonesia. Indonesian ambassador to Cambodia, Pitono Purnomo will accept the baton for the Indonesian leg on April 30. The 29th SEA Games Festival will be from Aug 19-30 while the 9th ASEAN Para Games from Sept 17-23. -- BERNAMA
