COVID-19: 2020 Asian Road Cycling Championships, ACC Congress In KL Postponed

KUALA LUMPUR, Feb 17 (Bernama) -- The Asian Cycling Confederation (ACC) has decided to postpone the 2020 Asian Road Cycling Championships scheduled for March 17-22 in Kuala Lumpur to a later date due to the COVID-19 (novel coronavirus) issue. Also postponed is the ACC Congress and Management Committee Meeting scheduled to be held on the sidelines of the championships. This was confirmed by ACC treasurer Amarjit Singh Gill from Malaysia who attended a specially-convened management committee meeting of the ACC in Dubai on Feb 15. “The ACC, upon receiving feedback and due advice from various quarters, decided that in order to ensure good health and safety of all participants and officials coming from all over Asia, the continental championships had to be postponed,” he said in a statement. This, he said, is in line with the global effort to stem the spread of the virus. “The ACC is concerned with protecting riders from all risks of contamination and avoiding the spread of COVID-19 to other countries,” said Amarjit, who is also Malaysian National Cycling Federation (MNCF) vice-president. “We hope to see the situation pertaining to COVID-19 start to normalise soon so that we can then start to fix the new dates for the congress and championships to be held before the Tokyo 2020 Olympics,” he added. -- BERNAMA
