England Former Striker Sir Geoffrey Hurst Praises Qatar's National Sport Day

Doha, February 12 (QNA) - Sir Geoffrey Hurst, England's former striker who scored the only hat-trick in a World Cup final, which helped England win the tournament in 1966 with a 4-2 victory over West Germany, praised Qatar's National Sport Day and the various events held for men and women, describing it as a good idea by officials in the State of Qatar to establish sport in society. This was stated during an interview on the sidelines of Hurst's participation in the activities of the National Sport Day. Geoffrey Hurst hailed the preparations made by the State of Qatar to host the 2022 World Cup, expressing his admiration for the preparations he witnessed in Doha to host one of the most significant sporting event in the world. He added, "I can see so much construction going on. It's just enormous and amazing." He also pointed out that moving Qatar World Cup to winter is a great idea as teams will arrive to the tournament prepared. Hurst stated that this was his third visit to Qatar after 2005 and 2019. "I enjoyed my visit last year. It's very different from what it was in 2005. Qatar has changed dramatically over the years. I can see many changes in a short time since my visit last year." He stated that Doha is ready to host the tournament after the dramatic changes in its infrastructure in a short time, adding that he was impressed with the architectural structures that were built in Qatar in preparation for the World Cup. "It's going to be a great World Cup in Qatar," he said. (QNA)
