FAM Does Not Expect Much Problem In Asian Cup Qualifier In Pyongyang
SHAH ALAM (Selangor, Malaysia) Feb 3 (Bernama) - The Football Association of Malaysia (FAM) does not expect much problem as the national squad travel to North Korea for the 2019 Asian Cup final round qualifier on March 28.
Its secretary-general, Hamidin Mohd Amin said he was in contact with the People's Republic of Korea Football Association (PRKFA) who said the national team would have no problem in traveling to Pyongyang.
"Several matches went on smoothly despite some constraints. We will follow the Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) set by the AFC and FIFA.
"We are also working with our security forces," he told reporters after the draw for the FAM Cup, the President's Cup and Youth Cup here, Thursday.
In the Asian Cup second round qualifiers last year, North Korea played four Group H matches in Pyongyang.
North Korea emerged as group runners-up to winners Uzbekistan collecting 16 points from eight matches.
The Philippines, Bahrain and Yemen made up group H.
Hamidin said as warm up, Malaysia is expected to play a friendly match against the Philippines in Manila or a club in the Chinese League.
Malaysia is in Group B with North Korea, Hong Kong and Lebanon.
