FAM to Seek Advice From AFC Only If Safety of Players Under Threat
PETALING JAYA, Feb 20 (Bernama) -- The Football Association of Malaysia (FAM) will only seek advice from the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) if there was a security threat during an Asia Cup 2019 third round match against North Korea.
"Thus far there is no issue. We will refer to the AFC and the North Korean embassy if there is a need. If the FAM feel the safety of players will be at stake during the match against North Korea, we will contact the AFC.
"Right now everything is okay. If there is a necessity the AFC may decide to play the match at a neutral venue or postpone the match," said FAM secretary-general Hamidin Mohd Amin.
Hamidin was commenting on reports that Wisma Putra (Malasyia's Foreign Ministry) had Monday recalled Malaysian Ambassador to North Korea from Pyongyang.
Malaysia are scheduled to face North Korea in an Asia Cup 2019 third round Group B match at the Kim Il-sung Stadium in Pyongyang on March 28.
Malaysia are drawn in Group B with North Korea, Hong Kong and Lebanon.
