Hong Kong Stops Malaysia's Fine Run At Women's World Team Squash Championship

KUALA LUMPUR, Dec 2 (Bernama) -- Malaysia's fine run at the 2016 Women's World Team Squash Championship was checked by fourth-seeded Hong Kong which denied the former's entry into the semi-finals. In a quarter-finals match at the Palais Des Sports Robert Charpentier in Paris, France, on Thursday, the national side led by world number five Nicol David lost 1-2 to Hong Kong. Recently-crowned national champion Delia Arnold launched the battle with Hong Kong but lost to Joey Chan 11-8, 5-11, 11-9, 3-11 and 6-11 in a gruelling five-set match over 57 minutes. Nicol levelled the score 1-1 after defeating Annie Au 11-7, 11-2 and 11-4 in straight sets in 27 minutes. In the third match, Malaysia's budding star S. Sivasangari lost 9-11, 17-15, 11-13 and 6-11 to Tong Tsz Wing in a match that lasted 56 minutes. For the record, Malaysia's best achievement in the championship is second placing in the 2014 event held in Canada. They secured third placing in 2006, 2008, 2010 and 2012. --BERNAMA
