Indonesia Overall Champion In Belgian Pencak Silat Championship

London, May 8 (ANTARA) - Indonesian team turns up as overall champion in the 18th Open Belgian Pencak Silat (martial arts) Championship by grabbing nine gold, two silver and two bronze medals in Schoten, Belgium, envoy said. The national Pencak Silat team with 15 athletes defeated teams of Austria, the Netherlands, Belgium, Germany, Malaysia, UK, France, Suriname, Switzerland and Vietnam, said Indonesian ambassador to Belgium, Arif Havas Oegroseno on Wednesday. Indonesian male athletes who grabbed the medals comprising Awaludin Nur(Male A), Johan (Male B), Mohamad Adhan Rusdin (Male C), Sapto Purnomo (Male D), Nyoman Ardika Saputrawan (Male H), Bagaskoro Sulistyo Wibowo (Male I). The famale athletes are Weny Sasmita (Female B), Wewey Wita (Female C) and Mariati (Female E) grabbed gold silver. Meanwhile, Yulinar Tikasari (Female A) and Piepet Kamelia (Female D) obtained silver medals. In addition, other male athletes, Afriansyah (Male F) and Muhammad Riski Wijaya (Male G) got bronze medals. Ambassador Oegroseno said further that the Indonesian Pencak Silat (martial arts) sport has evolved around three decades in Belgium, adding the Belgian Pencak Silat federation celebrated its 30th anniversary last year. The envoy also extended appreciation to chairman of the Belgian Pencak Silat Federation "Harimau Bongkot", Ludo Pieters, over his role to develop the Pencak Silat sport Belgium.
