Leaders congratulated on Arab Cross Country Championship victory

Manama, (BNA): HH Shaikh Khalid bin Hamad Al Khalifa, First Deputy Chairman of the Supreme Council for Youth and Sports, President of the West Asian Athletics Federation and President of the Bahrain Athletics Association has extended congratulations to His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa, His Royal Highness Prime Minister Prince Khalifa bin Salman Al Khalifa, His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the Crown Prince, Deputy Supreme Commander and First Deputy Prime Minister, and HH Shaikh Nasser bin Hamad Al Khalifa, Representative of HM the King for Charity Work and Youth Affairs, President of the Supreme Council for Youth and Sports and President of Bahrain Olympic Committee on the occasion of the achievement of Bahrain National Athletics Team in the recently concluded 23rd Arab Cross Country Championships held in Jordan.
The team won the first place in the teams' category, while team members Albert Rob and John Koech respectively won the first and second places in the men’s singles competition. As for the women’s contest, the team was also crowned first after team members Winfred Mutile Yav and Ponito Idao Robeto came in the second and third places, respectively.
HH Shaikh Khalid affirmed that the victory came as a result of the continuous support provided by the Wise Leadership and HH Shaikh Nasser to the youth and sports movement in general and to athletics sports in particular, contributing to the efforts supporting the Bahraini sports in taking steady steps forward and achieving more regional and international accomplishments.
HH Shaikh Khalid praised the achievement attained by Bahrain National Athletics Team members in the championship and commended on their high and professional performance shown in the race, in which they surpassed some of the best athletes from across the Arab region.
Commenting on the occasion, HH Shaikh Khalid said: "The Bahraini athletics sports continue achieving remarkable results in regional, intercontinental and international championships and contests. Bahraini athletes have overcome all the challenges in order to promote the Kingdom in international sports arenas as an incubator of excellent professional athletes. This is the first international participation for the team in 2019 and we are optimistic and look forward for more victories throughout the next 12 months."
His Highness added that the Board of Directors of the Bahrain Athletics Association will provide more support and sponsorship to the Bahraini athletes as an incentive to encourage them to continue their successes and positively represent the Kingdom in international sports competitions and championships, reflecting the efforts dedicated by the association to support Bahraini sports.
