Malaysia Is Runner-Up At 5th Asian School Boys Hockey Meet

KUALA LUMPUR, April 12 (Bernama) -- Malaysia had to settle for runner-up after losing 1-5 to host India in the final match at the 5th Asian School Boys Under 18 Hockey Championship held at Aishbagh Hockey Stadium in India on Tuesday. In the match, India took the lead in the 12th minute via Alishan Mohammad's stunning goal before Pratap Lakra scored a brace in the 20th and 23rd minutes after he converted a penalty corner and a penalty stroke, respectively, according to Hockey India's website;www.hockeyindia.org. Muhamad Akhimullah Anuar Esook reduced the deficit for Malaysia after finding the net in the 32nd minute, only to see India adding two more goals through Alishan in the 34th minute and Maninder Singh in the 38th minute. In the third/fourth placing match, Singapore beat China 3-1 in a penalty shoot-out after both teams tied 1-1 in the regulation time. Eight teams took part in the nine-day meet which was being held since April 4 namely Singapore, China, Thailand, Sri Lanka, United Arab Emirates, Nepal, Malaysia and also India as the host. -- BERNAMA
