Malaysian Rider Remains On Top In FIM Asia Supermoto Championships

KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 22 (Bernama) -- Malaysian supermoto rider Muhd Habibullah Mohd Salleh widened the points gap to remain in the lead in both the Open International and Asian Class events after Round 3 of the 2016 FIM Asia Supermoto Championships in Bayanihan Park, Angeles, Philippines, on Sunday. The KTM Malaysian Team rider accumulated 22 points after finishing in second place, respectively, in Race 1 and Race 2 to remain on top of the championships' leaderboard with 121 points. Following 14 points behind in the Open International category was Australia's Andy McLiesh while Habibullah's elder brother, Mohd Al-Amirul Ashshahid, settled in third place with 97 points after Sunday's race. "I'm really pleased with my results, having come in second place in both races. However, to find the right tyre combination to handle the slippery grasssection was difficult, so I had opted for the rain tyre for the front. "All I could do at the end was to maintain my position and not crash because my target is not only the Asian Class but the Open International Class too," he said in a statement from the race promoter, E-Plus Entertainment Productions (M) Sdn Bhd, Tuesday. Meanwhile in the Asian Class, Habibullah also stood as the overall leader with 147 points while Mohd Al-Amirul was in second place with 125 points and Mohd Khairi Zakaria in third with 116 points. The 2016 FIM Asia Supermoto Championships will head to Kuala Lumpur for the final round on Dec 17 and 18. -- BERNAMA
