Malaysia's Challenge Fizzles Out At Badminton Asia Mixed Team Championships

KUALA LUMPUR, Feb 18 (Bernama) -- The country's challenge at the Badminton Asia Mixed Team Championships ended after losing 0-3 to defending champion, China at the quarterfinals match in Vietnam Friday. Chen Qingchen/Zhang Nan delivered the first point for the 'Great Wall' team after scoring a 21-14 and 21-9 win over Goh Soon Huat/Shevon Lai Jemie in the mixed doubles event, according to Badminton World Federation (BWF) website;www.bwfbadminton.org. Shi Yuqi doubled up their advantage after whipping Lim Chi Wing; winning with 21-7 and 21-14 in the men's singles before Li Junhui/Liu Yuchen sealed the semifinals spot for China after fending off a strong challenge in the men's doubles from Goh Sze Fei/Nur Izzuddin Mohd Rumsani;19-21, 22-20 and 21-10. On Saturday, China will meet Japan in the semifinals after the latter scored a hard-fought 3-2 win over Indonesia in another last-eight match.
