Malaysia's Interest In US Open Squash Tourney Ends
KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 8 (Bernama) -- Malaysia's campaign in the United States Open Squash Championships ended, after the only player left standing, S. Sivasangari lost in the third round of the tournament in Philadelphia, United States on Monday (Tuesday in Malaysia).
The world number 48th player who displayed a fine run by beating top ranked players in two preliminary rounds, failed to continue her winning momentum after losing 12-10, 9-11, 6-11 and 12-14 to the world number seven, Sarah-Jane Perry of England in the third round match of the PSA World Tour Platinum event held at the Daskalakis Athletics Center in Drexel University, according to the tournament website www.usopensquash.com.
For the record, Sivasangari, who had clinched the Racquet Club Pro Series and the Australian Open titles, defeated Coline Aumard of France in the opening round on Saturday, before stunning the world number 13th player, Alison Waters of England in the second round on Sunday.
Sara-Jane will meet the world number one player, Raneem El Welily of Egypt in the quarter-finals on late Tuesday.
Raneem, the top seed, advanced into the next round by whitewashing her teammate, Yathreb Adel; winning 11-3, 11-5 and 11-4 in another third round match.
Malaysia did not send any representative in the men’s division of the US$185,000 tournament.
