Malaysia's Langkawi To Host FIVB Beach Volleyball World Tour Event Next Month

KUALA LUMPUR, March 16 (Bernama) -- Malaysia will become the first ASEAN country to host a FIVB Beach Volleyball World Tour event when Langkawi hosts the second leg on April 15-16. "FIVB (Fédération Internationale de Volleyball), is the international governing body for the sport, including indoor, outdoor, beach and grass volleyball. Matches will be played at Pantai Cenang, Langkawi, an island in Malaysia's northern state Kedah. "Malaysia will be the second nation to host the World Tour tournament after Shepparton, Australia while Pacific Harbour in Fiji, Agadir in Morocco, Daegu and Ulsan in South Korea are also in the list of host countries for the 2017 calendar," said E-Plus Global Sdn Bhd chief executive officer Andrew Ching when announcing the event here Wednesday. Ching said E-Plus will be working with the Malaysia Convention and Exhibition Bureau (MyCEB) under the Ministry of Culture and Tourism, Langkawi Development Authority (LADA) Pembangunan Langkawi (LADA) and Malaysia Volleyball Association (MAVA). E-Plus Global Sdn Bhd is a promoter and event management company that has organised various international events, including the Powerman Duathlon Putrajaya. The 32 top international beach volleyball players from 16 nations will compete for the country’s first world tour title and standing points while Malaysia will be represented by at least two teams of top beach volleyball players. Countries like Austria, Canada, Cuba, Czech Republic, England, Germany, Indonesia, Italy, Malaysia, Scotland, South Africa, Spain, and Switzerland will compete for the country's first title and a total cash prize of US$20,000 (RM89,000). --BERNAMA
