KUALA LUMPUR, Feb 15 (Bernama) -- Malaysia lived up to expectations by beating Sri Lanka 5-0 to open their campaign in the Badminton Asia Mixed Team Championships in Ho Chi Minh, Vietnam Tuesday. Playing in Group B, Malaysia picked up their first point in the men's singles when Soong Joo Ven defeated Niluka Karunaratne 21-8, 21-17 at the Nguyen Du Cultural Sport Club. Lee Ying Ying gave the second point after beating Thilini Pramodika Hendahewa 21-19, 21-11 in the women's singles before the men's doubles pair Goh Sze Fei/Nur Izzuddin Rumsani clinched the victory with a 21-18, 22-20 win. Mixed doubles pairs Lim Yin Loo/Yap Cheng Wen and Goh Soon Huat/Shevon Jemie Lai made it a clean sweep by defeating their respective opponents.
