M'sian Top Men's Doubles Pairs Advance To Second Round Of Hong Kong Open

KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 24 (Bernama) -- The top Malaysian men's doubles pairs advanced to the second round of the Hong Kong Open Super Series tournament after defeating their respective opponents in the first round Wednesday. World number one pair and top seeds Goh V Shem/Tan Wee Kiong had little problems against Kim Astrup/Anders Skaarup Rasmussen and sent the Danes packing in 21-14 and 21-15 in 41 minutes. They will next have to contend with Indonesia's Berry Angriawan/Hendra Setiawan or Liu Cheng/Zhang Nan of China who are now battling it out to see who advance to the second round Thursday. According to the results issued by the bwfsuperseries.com website, also advancing were Ong Yew Sin/Teo Ee Yi who defeated Mads Conrad-Peterson/Mads Pieler Kolding of Denmark 21-19, 22-24, 21-18 while Lim Khim Wah/Ong Jian Guo beat Russian pair, Vladimir Ivanov/Ivan Sozonov in 23-21, 21-11. Yew Sin/Ee Yi will meet South Korean pair Kim Jae Hwan/Yoo Yeon Seong who beat Malaysian professional pair Koo Kien Keat/Tan Boon Heong 19-21, 8-21 while Khim Wah/Jian Guo will be up against hosts' pair Law Cheuk Him/Reginald Lee Chun Hei. In the men's singles, Chong Wei Feng caused an upset when he beat world number 10 Tanongsak Saensomboonsuk of Thailand 18-21, 21-19, 21-11 in a match that lasted about an hour. Awaiting Wei Feng in the second round is Prannoy Haseena Sunil Kumar of India who defeated China's Qiao Bin 21-16, 21-18. However, Iskandar Zulkarnain lost to fourth seeded Son Wan Ho of South Korea in 11-12, 21-19, 15-21 in a 57-minute match while Zulfadli Zulkifli had to withdraw when his opponent Angus Ng Ka Long of Hong Kong was leading 17-12 in the decider. Ng took the first set 21-17 but Zulfadli fought back to take the second in 22-20. In the women's doubles, Vivian Hoo/Woon Khe Wei made short work of the hosts' pair Leung Sze Lok/Wu Yi Ting, winning in 21-11, 21-12 and will meet third seeded Kamilla Rytter Juhl/Christinna Pedersen of Denmark Thursday.
