Nepal Lift Inaugural AFC Solidarity Cup After Defeating Macau 1-0
KUCHING (Sarawak, Malaysia), Nov 16 (Bernama) -- Nepal edged Macau 1-0 in the final of the binaugural AFC Solidarity Cup Malaysia 2016 at the Sarawak Stadium in Petra Jaya here Tuesday night.
With the victory Nepal also created history of winning its first ever Asian football title after lifting the SAG and Bangabandhu Cup titles earlier this year.
Nepal who had beaten Laos in the semifinal to take a shot at Macau in the final, started on high spirits and deservedly scored in the 29th minute through Sujal Kumar Limbu's header.
The first half score remained 1-0 although both sides were involved in a number of goal-scoring attempts.
On Monday, Laos finished in third place after beating Brunei 3-2.
Seven teams participated in the tournament, namely Nepal, Macau, Laos, Brunei, Mongolia, Cambodia and Sri Lanka.
The 2016 AFC Solidarity Cup is the first edition of the AFC Solidarity Cup, an international football tournament, which started on Nov 2.
The tournament was created by the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) as a replacement for the AFC Challenge Cup which was played for the last time in 2014.
