PGM Hope To Have Four Golfers At 2020 Tokyo Olympics

KUALA LUMPUR, Dec 21 (Bernama) – The Professional Golf of Malaysia (PGM) are hoping that four golfers – two men and two women – will qualify for the 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games. PGM chairman, Ahmad Sarji Abdul Hamid, said as such, the next one and half years would be a crucial period. He also hoped that the golfers would do well in the Asian Development Tour (ADT) tournaments next year and be placed among the top 300 to qualify for the Olympics. “I am confident because our players are all very young and should perform well to earn world ranking points,” he told reporters after launching the PGM Tour Calendar for 2019 season at PGM headquarters, Friday. Ahmad Sarji also revealed that PGM had proposed the names of six golfers – Shahriffuddin Ariffin, Sukree Othman, Amir Nazrin Jailani, Kim Leung Kwang, R. Nachimuthu and Wilson Choo – to play in the 2019 Asian Tour calendar through country exemption. The 2019 PGM Tour calendar will have 31 tournaments – nine ADT, six PGM closed, four PGM qualifying school, 10 ladies’, the IGT-PGM Ryder Cup-style (to be hosted by Indonesian Golf Tour) and one PGM seniors – offering a total purse of RM3.895 million. --BERNAMA
