Qatar Amateur Radio Society to Set Up Station in Al Khor to Support 2022 World Cup

Doha, October 29 (QNA) - As part of the continuous efforts of various State institutions to host the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar, the Qatar Amateur Radio Society (QARS) plans to inaugurate a special station for wireless hobbyists in Al Khor to support the rapprochement of peoples and publicize the country's preparations for the 2022 FIFA World Cup. This was announced by the General Secretary of QARS Sabaan Mismar Al Jassim to Qatar News Agency (QNA) on the sidelines of a ceremony held by QARS to honor the participants in the annual International Amateur Radio Contest (CQ WW SSB 2019). He pointed out that this upcoming station will be an opportunity to introduce amateur radio enthusiasts around the world to the State preparations for the World Cup, as well as on working to bring people closer together as competition in the fields of wireless, telecommunications engineering, and others is expanding. He added that the launch has not yet been determined, but it will happen well before the start of the World Cup. Al Jassim highlighted the importance of QARS working in cooperation with the Qatar Satellite Company Es'hailSat, which has put a booster in the satellite Es'hail-2, to serve as a station for all radio amateurs, which nears 8 million around the world, to use the satellite to practice. He noted that it's the first fixed satellite in the world linking Brazil and India to cover Asia and Africa, as well as a large part of Latin America and that this is one of the achievements made by Qatar to serve humanity in this field. Al Jassim said that they are currently working on modernizing the devices in QARS and to establish a fixed headquarter in Doha and be close to the sea. He pointed out that QARS is working to continue to develop the skills of its employees, as well as training new employees, through the provision of practical and theoretical courses for new wireless enthusiasts who are required to master the English language and a wide culture, including the ability to take responsibility to be granted licenses. HE the Chairman of the Board of Directors of QARS Abdullah bin Hamad Al Attiyah honored the participants of the International Amateur Radio Contest (CQ WW SSB 2019) in which a team of board members and a number of employees have previously participated over the past years and have achieved world-class results. HE the Chairman said that the participation of the QARS in this competition for this year is a model where all the requirements of the competition were provided and that a model station has been prepared with a number of modern devices and high-quality antennas to achieve an advanced position in the world. QARS aims to develop the hobby of wireless radio among citizens and regulate its practice in accordance with the laws in force locally and internationally, in addition to the establishment of human relations and international relations between amateurs in Qatar and their colleagues abroad in order to introduce and promote Qatar.
