Qatar Sport Day Celebrations to Kick Off Tomorrow

Doha, February 10 (QNA) - The State of Qatar's celebrations of the National Sport Day will kick off with an official and popular participation as all areas of the country will turn on Tuesday into green fields that receive tens of thousands of citizens and residents from all segments of society to practice in many types of sports. Multiple free sporting events will be held throughout Qatar, including cycling, swimming, football, basketball, tennis, taekwondo, self-defense, beach volleyball, water sports competitions and indoor activities in clubs and sports federations. The day is dedicated for physical activities that allow everyone to be involved to promote the benefits of a healthy lifestyle. The State of Qatar celebrated the Sport Day for the first time in February 2012 after the issuance of the Amiri decision No. 80 for 2011, stating that each Tuesday of the second week of February shall be Qatar National Sport Day, and that it shall be an official paid holiday, during which ministries and other government and public bodies and institutions organize sports events for their employees and their families participate to raise awareness of the importance of sport and its role in the lives of individuals and societies. Qatar is the first country in the world to dedicate a day to sport, which encouraged some international institutions and federations to copy this unique experience. In a press conference yesterday, the committee of the National Sport Day announced the completion of all the preparations for the day in all parts of the State, and revealed the events and venues of the Sport Day.
