Sports Day registration begins

Manama, Jan. 24 (BNA): Bahrain Olympic Committee (BOC) started to receive applications of participation for the third edition of 2019 Bahrain Sports Day, scheduled for February 12, from sports federations, clubs and youth centres, in addition to various ministries, government authorities and various private sector institutions.
The public and private sectors have prepared a series of sports as well as recreational programs and activities for their employees in all over the country, as they interacted with the Bahrain Sports Day initiative, organized every year in February.
Mamoon Al Khateeb, member of the sports activities committee and supervising the registration process, said eight sports federations have already signed up for the event, namely sports federation for disabilities, table tennis, tennis, swimming, gymnastics, weightlifting, maritime sports and golf.
The Organizing Committee also received confirmation from three clubs, including Saar, who will be organizing an under-12 football tournament as well as other sets of activities s in cooperation with Al Rawabi Private School.
Bahrain Tennis Club have also lined up a packed programme on its agenda, such as an awareness seminar on the importance of sports, a set of entertaining competitions, and an entertaining show involving national teams players, club representatives and young participants’ parents.
On their part, Isa Town Club will be having free of charge medical tests as well as a seminar on sports and nutrition, in addition to a sports programme and traditional sports activities.
Among youth centres taking part are Shakhoora, Al Janoub and Salmabad, while various ministries have signed up as well.
They include the Works Ministry, Municipal Affairs and Urban Planning, Information Affairs Ministry, Finance and National Economy Ministry, Electricity and Water Authority, Health Ministry, Interior Ministry, Labor and Social Development Ministry, and Industry, Commerce and Tourism Ministry, Bahrain’s four governorate – the Capital Governorate, Muharraq Governorate, Northern Governorate and Southern Governorate, in addition to Shura Council, University of Bahrain, Education Ministry, also joined the lineup for this year’s Sports Day.
With regard to the private sector, Al Khateeb said the organizing committee received the approval from the Gulf Petrochemicals Industries Company (GPIC).
Khateeb added that it is hoped that the number of participants from different authorities representing the federations, sports clubs, youth centres as well as public and private sector institutions will increase in the next few days.
