Sports medicine hospital confirmed

Manama, June 17 (BNA): Supreme Council for Youth and Sports (SCYS) First Deputy Chairman and Bahrain Olympic Committee (BOC) President, HH Shaikh Khalid bin Hamad Al Khalifa, has directed to add a new sports medicine hospital.
Construction on the new facility, which will be under the umbrella of the BOC, will soon begin in an attempt to provide all treatment requirement as well as sports rehabilitation services for athletes and the public alike.
This was announced at the sixth meeting of the present BOC board of directors, chaired by Shaikh Khalid and attended by BOC secretary general Mohammed Al Nusuf, permanent board member Abdulrahman Askar and all other board members.
Al Nusuf presented a study plan for the hospital, which was prepared as per directives of HH Shaikh Khalid at the previous board meeting. It was also announced that a counseling firm will be chosen to manage the project.
The BOC secretary general also presented a plan that was already implemented in an attempt to reduce operational c
osts and sign up companies that support its programmes and projects.
Some of the highlights of the meeting was the confirmation of Khalid bin Hamad Elite Scholarship Programme, an initiative that aims to attract the elite athletes of Bahrain, who will undergo physical, psychological and skills tests before being included in another programme to become eligible to represent Bahrain at the 2024 and 2028 Olympics.
The basic criteria for the evaluation process of the federations in relation to the distribution of budgets was among other issues presented at the meeting. It was decided to entrust the Secretariat to prepare details of these standards, to be presented at the next meeting of the board for implementation from 2020.
