Sudirman Cup: Malaysia Up Against Mighty Japan In Quarter-Finals

KUALA LUMPUR, May 23 (Bernama) -- Malaysia will be up againt new badminton powerhouse Japan in the quarter-finals of the Sudirman 2019 Cup in Nanning, China. The draw for the quarter-final playoffs was done immediately after the group stage was concluded Wednesday. Malaysia confirmed their spot after China gave India a 5-0 drubbing in their final tie in Group D Wednesday. Tuesday, Malaysia, who had lost by the same margin to China in their first tie, edged India 3-2. Japan were the winners of Group A after defeating Thailand 4-1 in their final group tie. They had beaten Russia 3-2 on Monday. China will be taking on Denmark, defending champions South Korean will be meeting Thailand while Indonesia will have to contend with Taiwan to make it to the last four. -- BERNAMA
