Supreme Judicial Council, Primary Health Care Corporation, Qatar Tennis Federation Participate in Sport Day

Doha, February 11 (QNA) - The Supreme Judicial Council (SJC) participated in the Sport Day of the State, by organizing a number of sporting activities in Lusail Marina with the participation of HE SJC Chairman and President of the Court of Cassation Dr. Hassan bin Lahdan Al Mohannadi, and a number of courts' presidents, judges, council's employees and their family.
The Council's activities focused on walking as one of the most important sports that help in promoting physical and mental health and granting physical activity, which are the messages that are included in the Sport Day.
HE Dr. Al Mohannadi said that the Sport Day is a unique initiative that emphasizes the keenness of the Stat and its wise leadership in promoting a healthy lifestyle and spreading it to all members of society.
HE added that sport is not only important to the person who exercises it, as physical activity plays an important role in promoting a healthy lifestyle for individuals and contributes in one way or another to making individuals more productive in work and effective among society, pointing out that sport provides a person with physical and psychological health, which are important factors stimulating giving and innovation.
He also noted that organizing the Sport Day annually confirms the proper planning that the State of Qatar is adopting in order to build the person who is the true wealth that the country is proud of, especially since physical and mental health are among the most important elements on the path to achieving the goals and aspirations of Qatar National Vision 2030, which made Qatari people a top priority in all of these goals.
He stressed that the country's Sport Day is coming this year, and Qatar has made many sporting achievements on the road to hosting the 2022 World Cup, which is the soccer event that millions of people around the world are waiting for, as many projects related this tournament have been completed, including stadiums, facilities and infrastructure, hence, this event reaffirms the country's readiness to embrace the 2022 World Cup in the best of circumstances.
SJC Chairman spoke about the importance of a healthy culture and the moral message of the Sport Day, as these elements emphasize that the State spares no effort for its citizens and everyone who lives on this good land to enjoy all the capabilities that encourage them to practice physical activity, by providing playgrounds, exercise halls, green spaces and parks, and all facilities that enable and encourage them to do sports and follow healthy living behavior.
He pointed out that the intense community participation in the Sport Day's activities of all ages each year, confirms the success of this initiative, especially at the level of societal awareness, which has become noticeable among broad groups, of the importance of following healthy lifestyles for a healthy and vibrant community.
On the other hand, in response to the Amiri decision No. 80 for 2011, stating that each Tuesday of the second week of February shall be Qatar National Sport Day, the Primary Health Care Corporation (PHCC) participated in the Sport Day of the State of Qatar within many health and sport events in the public park adjacent to the Leabaib Health Center with the participation of the Corporation's leaders, employees, medical and nursing staff and their families.
Executive Director of Corporate Communication at PHCC Huda Mohsen al Wahedi affirmed that there are be many events this year in Leabaib park, including sport matches and health messages relating to proper nutrition, adding that there will be a health awareness corner with the participation of a cadre of nutritionists to introduce healthy lifestyles, provide medical advice and discuss the importance of healthy nutritional programs and physical activity.
Various vital examinations will be also provided by the nursing staff, she said, noting that these efforts come because of a close link between exercising regularly and the prevention of many chronic diseases such as heart disease, diabetes, high blood pressure and obesity.
The event, she said, also includes physical and athletic activities, games and competitions, in addition to awareness lectures in both Arabic and English on sports for the employees in the PHCC's main building.
Al Wahedi concluded by saying that the Corporation is interested in spreading the culture of daily sporting practice among students as it is an important part of their daily life program through the vision and services of the School Health Administration of the PHCC that organizes a set of events through nursing in schools to spread the culture of the importance of daily sport among students and the school community, and through simple educational lectures in addition to activities measuring vital signs, weight and height, and examining the percentage of sugar in the blood given that diabetes and obesity are among the most common health problems.
For its part, the Qatar Tennis, Squash and Badminton Federation also participated in the country's Sport Day by organizing some sport and leisure activities in many areas, including Katara, Msheireb Downtown, Tariq bin Ziyad School, and the Khalifa International Tennis and Squash Complex.
The activates at the Khalifa International Tennis and Squash Complex include a mini-championship for players under 8, 9 and 10 years, with the participation of players representing the national teams and their parents, in addition to fitness training, games and competitions in tennis, squash and badminton.
These activities are not limited to the Khalifa International Tennis and Squash Complex but also include other sites as the federation established mini tennis courts in Tariq Bin Ziyad School, Katara and Msheireb Downtown, and provided instructors from the federation who are going to teach the basics and techniques of this game.
In a statement on this occasion, President of the Qatar Tennis, Squash and Badminton Federation Nasser bin Ghanim Al Khulaifi said that the Sport Day embodies the great interest that Qatar, under the leadership of HH the Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani, attaches to sport and its important role in building a healthy and effective society in the development process in the country.
Al Khulaifi added that the wise leadership's initiative to allocate a day for sport, and to consider this day as an official holiday, increases greater interest in the health of citizens and residents on the land of Qatar and consolidates the values and culture of sport as it contributes to building bridges of communication and deepening social and cultural ties between peoples.
For his part, Qatar's Tennis, Squash and Badminton Federation Secretary General Tareq Zainal said in a statement that the Sport Day is a national and social event that aims to raise awareness of the importance of sports not only during this day but throughout the year.
The federation is keen to participate in this day out of its sports and social responsibility by preparing a diversified program through which it seeks to urge all members of society to practice sport, raise awareness of its importance and enhance social and cultural ties, Zainal added.
He also pointed out that the Sport Day is a great initiative that place Doha on the global sport map with its sporting successes, including the organization of international championships and major sporting events. (QNA)
