Tennis: Djokovic and His Brother Win in Qatar Exxon Mobil Doubles

Doha, December 31 (QNA) - World No.1 Novak Djokovic teamed up Monday with his brother Marko and reached the second round of Qatar Exxon Mobil Open in the doubles category, which began today at Khalifa International Tennis and Squash Complex. They just edge by the team comprised of Qatar's Mubarak Shannan and Turkey's Cem Ikel, winning 6-3, 3-6, and 10-6. Djokovic, who is the top seed worldwide, is set to begin his singles campaign for the 2019 season Tuesday in Doha, in a match against Damir Dzumhur. Djokovic's counterpart is the highest-ranked Bosnian tennis player. The Serbian, who won a total of 14 Grand Slams, is looking to become the second player in Qatar Exxon Mobil history to win the open three times. He won it in 2016 and 2017. The only player to have done this so far is tennis legend Roger Federer, who won the competition in 2005, 2006, and 2011. Djokovic was on fire in 2018, winning Wimbledon and the U.S. Open as he regained his form following an elbow injury that kept him out for a number of months in 2017. (QNA)
