THA 72 Continues To Lead On Day 2
LANGKAWI (Kedah, Malaysia), Jan 12 (Bernama) -- THA 72 continues to lead the Racing Class on day two of the 2017 Royal Langkawi International Regatta (RLIR).
The team from Thailand collected five penalty points to stay ahead of four other teams vying for the Prime Minister's Challenge Trophy.
Helmsman Don Whitcraft led THA 72 to win race three and race four to remain in first place.
When met after the race on Wednesday, Whitcraft said the team had some difficulties which called for close cooperation of the crew members.
"We get a lot of experience from this regatta though we never sailed together and hope to remain in first place after the race tomorrow (Thursday)."
Emagine (Australia) came in second place with 10 penalty points while Black Bazza (Hong Kong) was in third place with 12 penalty points.
Five times champion, Oi! (Australia) was in fourth place with 15 points while sole Malaysian team, Uranus was last with 18 penalty points.
Meanwhile, Oi! helmsman Rolf Heemskerk said techical mistakes cost the team dearly and affected their position.
"However, there are still six races to go. Our crew is great, I am confident of giving our rivals stiff competition," he added.
