Two Silver, Bronze For Malaysia On Opening Day At World Para Athletics

KUALA LUMPUR, March 21 (Bernama) -- Malaysia bagged two silver and a bronze medal on the opening day of the 9th Fazza World Para Athletics Championship at the Dubai Club for the Disabled in Dubai, United Arab Emirates on Monday. Mohd Afiq Mohd Ali Hanafiah delivered the first silver medal after finishing in second place out of seven athletes overall in the 200m men T-12 event (Visual impairment) by clocking 23.34 seconds, according to the Dubai Club for the Disabled's website;www.dcd.org.ae. Great Britain athlete Zachary Shaw won the gold with a time of 22.93 seconds while Vahid Alinajimi of Iran had to settle for the bronze medal after posting 23.61 seconds. Malaysia's second silver medal came through Muhd Nurdin Ibrahim in the 800m men T13/20 event (Intellectual impairment) after he clocked 2 minutes 01.7 seconds. Algerian athlete, Fouad Baka won the gold with a time of 1 minute and 59 seconds while Ramkaran Singh of India secured the bronze with a time of 2 minutes 02.6 seconds. Muhamad Ashraf Muhammad Haisham, the 2015 Singapore ASEAN Para Games gold medallist, grabbed the bronze medal for the Malaysian contingent in the 800m men T44/46 event (Upper limbs affected by limb deficiency, impaired muscle power or impaired range of movement). A total of 386 para athletes from 41 countries are taking part in the five-day meet which started on Monday. -- BERNAMA
