Two World Tour Teams Show Interest In Joining LTdL 2021

LANGKAWI, Feb 15 (Bernama) -- Two World Tour teams from Europe have announced their initial agreement to participate in the 26th edition of the Le Tour de Langkawi (LTdL) next year, said the organiser, Human Voyage (M) Sdn Bhd. Without revealing the teams, its chief operating officer, Shahaizereen A Hamid, said the two teams were impressed by the success of this year's LTdL amid various problems, including lack of World Tour teams and the spread of COVID-19. "The World Tour Team from South Africa, NTT Pro Cycling Team, has also not ruled out the possibility of returning to Malaysia next year," he told a press conference here Friday night. Meanwhile, Shahaizereen said the organiser would intensify the promotion of LTdL, especially the side activities, to ensure that next year's edition would receive a much better response than this year's edition. He also explained that some state governments have shown interest in hosting LTdL 2021. Shahaizereen said Sabah and Sarawak, which were the venues of LTdL 2020, were keen to continue to host the prestigious cycling event next year following the overwhelming response from the people of both states. This year's LTdL returned to Sabah and Sarawak, where the last race was held in 1997. Commenting on the organisation of LTdL 2020, Shahaizereen said he was satisfied with the commitment of all parties, including all 21 teams, to ensure it went smoothly. -- BERNAMA
