Wei Feng Emerges Malaysia's Sole Survivor In Men's Singles Of Macau GP Gold Badminton Meet
KUALA LUMPUR, Dec 2 (Bernama) -- Former Malaysian shuttler, Chong Wei Feng is the only Malaysian left standing in the men's singles in the Macau Open Grand Prix Gold Badminton Championship at the Tap Seac Multisport Pavilion in Macau on Thursday.
The unseeded player who received a bye in the second round following the withdrawal of Angus Ng Ka Long of Hong Kong from the tournament, however, was stretched to play in the rubber-set against Anthony Ginting of Indonesia in the third round before securing a 21-17, 19-21 and 21-18 win, according to the Badminton World Federation (BWF) website;www.bwfbadminton.org.
Wei Feng will meet Wang Tzu Wei of Taiwan in the quarterfinals tomorrow after the sixth seeded player edged another former national player, Tan Chun Seang; 21-19 and 21-10.
Malaysia's challenge in the men's doubles, however, fizzled out after three pairs lost to their respective opponents.
In the women's singles, Goh Jin Wei is the only Malaysian player left standing after Tee Jing Yi, the fifth seeded player, suffered a shocking 17-21 and 19-21 defeat to China's young shuttler, Chen Xiaoxin.
