Winners of showjumping contest crowned

Manama, Apr. 13 (BNA): Emerging Bahraini showjumper Mayood Al Rumaihi clinched the Grand Prize of Bahrain Royal Equestrian and Endurance Federation (BREEF) which was sponsored by Horse Pride company and held at the Military Sports arena on Friday. Al Rumaihi and other winners in the contest, which was under the patronage of HH Shaikh Faisal bin Rashid Al Khalifa, President of BREEF Vice President of the Supreme Council for Environment, were crowned by Shaikh Khalid bin Mohammed Al Khalifa, President of the Showjumping Committee in BREEF. Al Rumaihi triumphed in the contest main event after clocking 44.92 seconds, while Saber Salman came second (41.22) and the winner himself finished third after taking part in the event on two horses. He achieved third place in 90.52 seconds. An ability challenge was organised after the Grand Prix, where Al Rumaihi, Basil Al Dosseri, Saber Salman and Sami Ghazwan contested it out on who can jump over the highest obstacle. Saber Salman topped the podium amid a standing ovation after almost overcoming the 180cm obstacle as his counterparts failed to pass the 170cm obstacle except for Ghazwan, whose horse later refused to even attempt to jump over the 180cm barrier. Meanwhile, Grace Rodney won the first junior event which was organised as part of the Championship, while Hussain Asghar achieved a narrow victory in the second event for juniors. In the amatuer category, Al Rumaihi stole the limelight again, winning first place as Dr Eiad Freed dominated the two races for senior participants, topping the podium in both.
