World Champ Robert Killian Confirms Entry In Sarawak's Spartan Race

KUCHING (Sarawak), Feb 15 (Bernama) -- Spartan Race 2019 world champion Robert Killian has confirmed his participation in the second Spartan Race at the Leadership Institute of Sarawak Civil Service in Padawan near hear on April 4 and 5. Sarawak Youth and Sports Minister Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah said the United States athlete was among 1,950 athletes who had confirmed participation, with 568 of them from foreign countries. Overseas participants include those from the United Kingdom, France, Denmark, Germany, Japan, India and the United Arab Emirates. "Some 4,000 athletes are expected to participate in this race, which will be part of the Southeast Asian Regional Qualifying Series," he said at a press conference here Friday. Four categories will be contested in the race: the Spartan Sprint (5 kilometres and 20 obstacles); Spartan Super (10km and 25 obstacles); Spartan Trail (10km) and Spartan Trail (21km). Meanwhile, Abdul Karim hoped that the COVID-19 infection will be resolved before the race begins. "About 20 Chinese athletes have already registered for this year's race and we hope the situation will change for the better before the Spartan Race begins," he said. The last time Sarawak hosted the international race was in October last year, which was attended by about 3,000 participants. This year's race offers a total cash prize of RM23,400 (about US$5,600). -- BERNAMA
