TURKEY'S INTERMEDIATE GOODS IMPORTS ON RISE IN JANUARY
ANKARA (A.A) - 26.02.2010 - Turkey's intermediate goods imports increased by 24.1 percent in January 2010 over January 2009.
According to Turkish Board of Statistics (TUIK), imports of intermediate goods rose up to 8.6 billion USD in January 2010, constituting 74.9 percent of Turkey's total imports in the same period.
The country's capital goods imports also rose by 28 percent, while consumer goods imports increased by 25.5 percent in January, compared to the previous year's figures.
Moreover, Turkish manufacturing sector exported the highest amount of goods in January 2010, followed by agriculture & forestry, mining & quarrying and fishery sectors, TUIK said.
Manufacturing sector's exports reached 7.2 billion USD, while agriculture & forestry sectors' exports amounted to 436.8 million USD, mining & quarrying sectors' exports equalled to 147.2 million USD and fishery's exports reached 52.5 million USD in January 2010.
-EXPORTS TO EU RISE-
In January, Turkey's exports to EU countries recorded a 17.1 percent year-on-year rise as well.
Exports to EU countries amounted to 3.9 billion USD in the said period and its share in exports in total rose up to 50.4 percent.
Germany ranked the highest in Turkey's exports list in January, followed by Italy, France and Britain.
Furthermore, Turkey imported the highest amount of goods from Russia in the same period.
