Gomishan Shrimp Site To Fetch $2.3m This Year

Gorgan, Golestan Prov., Oct 28, IRNA – General Director of Golestan Fisheries Department says Gomishan shrimp site will fetch $2.3 million in the current year, adding that 85% of the shrimp cultured will be exported. Seyed Javad Qods Alavi referred to 481 tons of shrimp which was farmed this year and said the figure stood at 304 tons last year, 172 for two years ago and 140 tons for three years ago. Qods Alavi said plans are underway to have 1000 tons of shrimp next year which will enjoy an increase of 100% as compared to the corresponding figure this year. Pointing to the development of Gomishan shrimp site, the official said the 10 thousand hectare site is composed of two phases: one in 4 thousand hectares and the other in six thousand hectares. The first line of the first phase is operational in an area of 1000 hectares and the second line is being prepared which will be put at the disposal of the private sector upon completion. He said phases one and two of Gomishan shrimp site will become operational within a five-year plan, adding that feasibility study has predicted development of the site up to 28 thousand hectares which will be implemented by the year 1404 (2025). Qods Alavi predicted that with the full operation of phases one and two of Gomishan shrimp site job opportunities will be created for 8500 work forces. He said with regard to the high unemployment record and deprivation of Gomishan, development of the site will play an outstanding role in removing deprivation in the region. /end
