Tehran, April 23, IRNA – Minister of Oil Rostam Qasemi announced Monday that Iran has become fully capable of exporting know-how and services related to construction of petrochemical complexes.
The minister made the announcement during a ceremony in Bandar Imam Khomeini in Khuzestan Province to inaugurate the first phase of a petrochemical complex which would produce Methyl Ethyl Ketone (MEK).
The MEK is an organic compound soluble in water which is commonly used as an industrial solvent.
Qasemi said putting into operation of the unit would make Iran self-sufficient in producing the strategic product.
The MEK is mostly used in paint, resin, grease and engine oil companies.
The minister added that, so far, only the US, Germany, China and Japan enjoy the technology of producing MEK in the world.
The Iranian experts have succeeded in localizing the technology of producing MEK by designing, planning and constructing petrochemical complexes, Qasemi stressed./end
