Thai tourism not affected by China’s economic slowdown

BANGKOK, July 15 (TNA) - The Thai tourism is unlikely to be affected by China's economic slowdown currently, as Chinese visitors remain on top of international arrivals in the country. Thai Tourism and Sports Kobkarn Wattanavrangkul made the assessment on Wednesday, pointing out that the immense Chinese economy has over 1.3 billion population and a large number of them remain affordable for their overseas travels. Kobkarn told journalists that her ministry eyes to focus on attracting international tourists with high purchasing power, including those from China, as Thailand is a luxury affordable destination and wellknown for rich natural beauty and interesting people's ways of life, as well as good conference, healthcare and sport facilities. The minister reported that over 950,000 international visitors arrived in Thailand during the first 12 days of this month alone, a 43.81 per cent year-on-year surge, most of whom are Chinese and Malaysian visitors. According to the minister, Thailand earned about 1.10 trillion baht of tourism-related revenues during October 2014-July 2015, a 22.52 per cent year-on-year growth. (TNA)
