Bangkok governor will open more public parks and bicycle lanes this year
BANGKOK, Jan 1 (TNA) - After presiding over an alms-giving event on the New Year occasion this morning, Bangkok governor MR Sukhumbhand Paribatra said he planned new large-scaled public parks, more bicycle lanes and mass transit expansion as New Year gifts for people.
MR Sukhumbhand also said that the work of the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA) in the past year had been obstructed by many factors including political turmoil.
This morning, the governor led BMA executives and representatives of the government, private and civil sectors to give alms to 189 Buddhist monks. Participants also worshipped Phra Buddha Navaratchabophit Buddha image and prayed for good luck. The BMA places the Buddha image at the Sanam Luang ground from Dec 30 to Jan 1 for general people's worshipping. The Buddha image is normally kept at the City Hall.
MR Sukhumbhand said that he wished people in the country to be happy and enjoy New Year holidays while taking good care of themselves and people around them. He promised to work at his best this year. (TNA)
