Five ministries Get Poor Marks From Ombudsman

Jakarta, July 22 (Antara) - Ombudsman Indonesia has rated five out of 18 ministries in Indonesia as poor in terms of implementation of public services particularly licensing service, Chairman Danang Girindrawardana said. "The five ministries are Manpower and Transmigration, Public Works, Education and Culture, Social and Agriculture. We suggest President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono should push his subordinates from the five ministries to improve their public service as mandated by the constitution," he said. Danang explained the recent assessment is based on close observation of the performance of all ministries particularly their sub units that provide service to the public from the period of March to May 2013. Based on the assessment, about 42.9 percent of the units does not display standard time of service in places that can be seen by the public while 33.1 percent of units does not display information about service charge. "Such condition can give opportunity for public servants to ask for extra charge from the people, which is illegal," Danang said. Apart from giving poor marks to five ministries, the Ombudsman institution also gave good marks to nine ministries and very good marks to four ministries. The ministries that get good marks are Religious Affairs, Law and Human Rights, Forestry, Marine and Fisheries, Finance, Communication and Informatics, Environment, Transportation and Research and Technology. The ministries that get very good marks are Energy and Mineral Resources, Health, Trade and Industry.
