Iranian Young Scientist Wins UNESCO Award

Tehran, June 3, IRNA - Iranian Atieh Kazemi Mojarrad has won a UNESCO science prize, it was announced here on Monday. The UNESCO Young Scientists Awards and the Michel Batisse Award for Biosphere Reserve Management were announced by the International Coordinating Council of the Man and the Biosphere (MAB) Program, which met at UNESCO’s Headquarters recently, a press release issued by the UN Information Center (UNIC) said. Ms Mojarrad won the prize for her case study on sustainable development of biosphere reserves through the promotion of key ecosystem services. The MAB program has been granting awards of up to $5,000 each since 1989. These grants are intended to encourage young researchers to undertake work on ecosystems, natural resources and biodiversity. An additional two special awards have been financed by the Austrian MAB Committee since 2010. Biosphere reserves are areas that promote innovative solutions to issues of conservation, ecology and sustainable development recognized as such by UNESCO’s MAB Program./end
