President Acknowledges Global Registration Of Burnt City
Tehran, July 7, IRNA – President Hassan Rouhani in a message appreciated the efforts of Cultural Heritage, Handicrafts and Tourism Organization for registration Burnt City on global heritage list.
The message addressing head of the organization, Masoud Soltanifar, said that introducing signs of a nationˈs civilization can convey the massage of that nationˈs culture, knowledge and glory to the world.
The president said that registration of the Iranian civilizationˈs signs can introduce Iran as a one of the main cultural and tourism hubs to the world.
Rouhani hoped that achieving global attention would highlight advantages of Sistan-Baluchestan province and pave the way for its sustainable development.
The Burnt City is the name of remnants of a ancient state city in Iran located 56 kilometers from Zabol on Zabol – Zahedan Road in eastern province of Sistan and Baluchestan.
The great city was established concurrent with Bronze Age associated with Jiroft Civilization and Iranians lived there 6000 years ago.
Based on the archeological studies, the city sprawls in an area measuring 280 hectares, 80 hectares of which was residential areas.
Burnt City was registered on UNESCO global heritage list during the UNESCO 38th Summit on June 22, 2014, bringing the total number of Iranian sites registered by UNESCO to 17./end
