Strict security checks at Don Mueang Airport eased

BANGKOK, July 21 (TNA) - The Thai government, through the Ministry of Transport, has eased stricter checks at Bangkok’s Don Mueang Airport, imposed on July 17, following flight delays and complaints by passengers. Thai Transport Minister Air Chief Marshal Prajin Juntong told journalists of the decision on Tuesday, one day after his inspection at the Don Mueang Airport. Air Chief Marshal Prajin confirmed that he has ordered authorities at Don Mueang Airport to ease the restriction to facilitate international passengers. Under the relieved measure, the transport minister said, an x-ray on passenger checked-in luggage is maintained, while their carry-on bags are not required for an x-ray, but they are to be scanned before passengers arrive at their departure gates, just as they were before the stricter rule was imposed last Friday, which required both passenger luggage and carry-on bags to be x-rayed. The transport minister noted that airport authorities are ordered to be on the lookout that stickers placed on passenger luggage after an x-ray must not be torn and a new x-ray must be taken if any sticker is found not in a perfect condition. Meanwhile, Thai Prime Minister General Prayut Chan-ocha told reporters that he was informed of the inconvenience faced by international passengers at Don Mueang Airport and asked the media to disseminate the relieved measure to the public.
