Cypriot leaders meet in reunification talks

LEFKOSA (A.A) - December 19, 2011 - Turkish and Greek Cypriot leaders met on monday in their UN-brokered settlement talks to reunify the divided island. "Unlike our last meeting, today's was sincere and constructive. We have made progress in many issues including the European Union. I believe that we could reach a compromise," Turkish Cypriot President Dervis Eroglu told reporters after the meeting with Greek Cypriot leader Demetris Christofias in the UN-controlled buffer zone. The two leaders will meet again on January 3 and 9, 2012 before they gather in New York with UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon, who has announced plans to call an international conference on the issue.
