German Chancellor Reaffirms Need For Mursiˈs Release

Berlin, July 20, IRNA -- German Chancellor Angela Merkel here Friday once again called for release of ousted Egyptian president Mohammad Mursi. Speaking at her annual news conference in Berlin, she reiterated her countryˈs ˈstanceˈ that Mursi should be freed. The former president has reportedly been under arrest at an undisclosed location since July 3rd when the military removed him from power amid mass protests demanding his resignation. Expressing some concern over the latest developments in Egypt, Merkel stressed that all societal groups should be included in the future political process of the Arab country. Those that did not support the Muslim Brotherhood felt they were treated badly by Mursi when he was president. And if now the Muslim Brotherhood supporters felt they were treated badly that would be bad for the future political process in Egypt, Merkel said. Egypt has been the scene of deadly political protests in recent weeks between pro-and anti-Mursi backers and sympathizers./end
