Indian Muslims Body Condemns Coup In Egypt, Calls For Morsi Return
New Delhi, Aug 20, IRNA - The umbrella body of Indian Muslim organizations expressed Indian Muslim community’s reaction to the unfolding events in Egypt since June 30 this year.
President of All India Muslim Majlis-e Mushawarat (AIMMM) Zafarul-Islam Khan said mobocracy has been used to unseat an elected President and his government in Egypt.
Egypt’s so-called liberals, remnants of the Mubarak regime and the army in cahoots with the West, especially America, and some Persian Gulf states like Saudi Arabia, Kuwait and UAE, have nullified a legitimate government which is a bad omen for democracy in the region, said the official addressing a press conference Monday.
“The Egyptian army has now started brutal massacre of the supporters of the ousted president to crush all opposition and this, without doubt, will push the country to a civil war on the lines of the neighboring Algeria where too a popular mandate was nullified by the army in 1991 which resulted in a civil war which continues till date and has devoured close to two hundred thousand lives,” Noted the Indian Muslim leader.
Condemning the American, European and some Persian Gulf states’ policy of supporting a military coup, he expressed his anguish that the Indian government has not taken a strong stand against the coup despite our clear policy of supporting democracy and human rights all over the world.
Interacting with the media persons, the Amir (President) of Jamaat-e Islami Hind (JIH), Maulana Jalaluddin Umari said there was no solution for the Egyptian problem except by reinstating the elected president.
He added the whole Indian Muslim community without any exception whatsoever supported President Mursi and demanded his return to power without any delay.
Press Conference was also addressed by Syed Shahabuddin former MP, Welfare Party president Mujtaba Farooq, and Noted scholar Mufti Ataur Rahman Qasmi, chairman of the Shah Waliullah Institute.
They said the 180-million-strong Indian Muslim community in one voice condemn the military coup in Egypt and calling for the immediate restoration of the legitimate and elected President of Egypt.
They said that America, which has destroyed many countries after 9/11, has now changed its strategy and it now wants to destroy countries through fomenting civil wars.
Earlier in the day, Muslim leaders visited the Egyptian Embassy in New Delhi and presented a memorandum to express views about the unfolding grim situation in Egypt.
The memorandum strongly condemned the use of excessive force against peaceful protesters in various places in Cairo and elsewhere in the country resulting in the killing of hundreds and thousands.
The memorandum also demanded immediate stopping the senseless massacre and restoration of peace and justice./end
