Khazaee Slams Manipulation Of HR As Destructive Weapon Against Iran

New York, Dec 22, IRNA - Iran's Permanent Ambassador to the United Nations Mohammad Khazaee on Thursday strongly criticized the act of certain countries which manipulate human rights issues against other countries. Speaking to IRNA here at the sidelines of the UN General Assembly, he said the international community should pay due attention to the fact that some countries are trying to misuse the issue of human rights as a political instrument to attain their sinister goals. Referring to issuance of an anti-Iran resolution by the UN General Assembly questioning the status of human rights in Iran, he said it was proposed by countries such as the US and Canada as well as a number of other European states. However, he added, in spite of the negative votes and abstention of 109 countries, the resolution was ratified although a majority of the permanent representatives at UN General Assembly were of the opinion that those masterminding the issue sought to politicize it. The international community has to note that certain countries by pretending to advocate human rights issues are trying to get to their own political goals, he said. The Islamic Republic of Iran believes that holding dialogue will be the best way to expand and improve the issue of human rights in the world while sparing no efforts to broaden serious cooperation and avoiding politicizing such issues, he said. He further said that such harmful stands and measures will damage the credibility of the United Nations. Referring to Canada as one of the countries raising the issue against Iran, he said the country has a black record in violating human rights of its ethnic minorities and indigenous people and supporting the Zionist regime and violation of legitimate rights of the Palestinian nation./end
