Larijani Elected Provisional Majlis Speaker

Tehran, May 28, IRNA - Members of the 9th Majlis on Monday elected former Parliament speaker Ali Larijani as provisional speaker of the new Majlis. Larijani and Gholamali Haddad Adel were two candidates of the post. Out of a total of 275 votes, Larijani and Haddad Adel won 173 and 100 ballots respectively. Majlis provisional presiding board would also be elected today. The board would continue its work until credentials of all MPs are confirmed by the legislative body. Iran's 9th parliament (Majlis) was kicked off Sunday morning in the presence of several high-ranking officials, foreign ambassadors and 288 newly elected MPs. The session was inaugurated by recitation of verses from the Holy Quran and a message from Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei./end
