NAM Urges UNSC To Stand Accountable To General Assembly

New York, Oct 30, IRNA – Iran’s Deputy Permanent Representative to the United Nations Gholam-Hossein Dehqani urged the UN Security Council (UNSC) to stand accountable to its performance to the General Assembly member states. The Iranian diplomat made the remarks during a UNSC meeting which examined its performance. He said transparency, accountability and avoiding double-standard policies are basic principles the Security Council members have to consider in all their activities. He believed the Security Council would succeed in effectively and resourcefully fulfilling its responsibility to safeguard international peace and security only if acts according to these principles./end
