President-elect Criticizes Western Govts For Sanctions On Iran

Tehran, June 18, IRNA – President-elect Hassan Rohani on Monday criticized the western governments for their unmanly sanctions policy against Iran. Addressing his first press conference after his landslide victory, Rohani said that mutual confidence-building by both the western governments and the Islamic Republic of Iran is the only way to put an end to the sanctions. He defended transparency of Iranian nuclear program. Calling western sanctions over Iranˈs nuclear program as ˈunfairˈ, Rohani said that the western countries are suffering from economic recession, proving that the sanctions harm their economies as well. He reiterated that for gradual removal of sanctions, two steps should be taken: Mutual confidence-building and more transparency from both sides. Insisting that Iranˈs nuclear program is completely transparent, he called for more transparency from both sides. He made it clear that the Islamic Republicˈs activities are within the framework of international laws. Elaborating on the process of lifting sanctions, he said that Iran has to avoid a new sanction and on the other hand should try to reduce sanctions and then remove all of them./end
