Russia, Argentina speak out against pressure on sovereign states - Duma chief

MOSCOW, July 8. /TASS/. Russia and Argentina speak out vigorously against violations of international law and oppose pressure on sovereign states, the leader of Russia's parliamentary lower house said on Wednesday. State Duma Speaker Sergey Naryshkin said at a meeting with Argentina's Vice President and Senate President Amado Boudou: "Both Argentina and Russia vigorously oppose violations of international law, pressure on sovereign states or changes of government by coup d'etat." The two nations share the same views on most issues of the international agenda, Naryshkin said, adding that Russia, as well as Argentina, called for "a leading coordinating role of the United Nations and its Security Council in the international affairs" and supported "efforts to build a fair multi-polar world". The speaker emphasised that Argentina was one of Russia’s key economic partners. "We are satisfied with development of our relations in many areas of the economic agenda," he said, noting also that Russia highly appreciated the level of political dialogue with the country. Argentina's Boudou also said that both countries defended common positions at all international platforms, stressing the importance of cooperation in such organisations as the United Nations, the International Monetary Fund, the World Bank and the Group of 20 leading economies. "Based on this strategic partnership, our states will manage to achieve the main thing - to raise living standards for our people," Boudou added. Read more
