Salehi: Iran Eager To Broaden Political, Economic Ties With Burundi

Tehran, Sept 3, IRNA – Foreign Minister Ali Akbar Salehi said on Sunday that the Islamic Republic of Iran calls for expansion of all out political and economic relations with Burundi. According to the Information and Press Bureau of the ministry of foreign affairs, Salehi made the remarks in a meeting with Burundi Foreign Minister Laurent Kavakure who attended the 16th Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) Summit in Tehran. In the meeting, Salehi appreciated the presence of the Burundi foreign minister and its companions in the international event. The two sides also reviewed enhancement of mutual relations and cooperation in various fields. The Burundi foreign minister, for his part, conveyed the warm greetings of his country's officials and lauded successful and well-organized NAM Summit in Tehran. He praised Iran's capabilities in many fields such as health, treatment and technical and engineering services and called for utilization of such valuable experiences by his country. Burundi also welcomes expansion of cooperation with Iran and making use of its experiences in tourism and in setting up vocational courses. He invited the Iranian foreign minister to visit Burundi. He also invited Iranian officials to attend a meeting titled "Burundi Economic Partners" which is to be held in Geneva this October. The two sides also underlined the need to form a joint economic commission to help broaden economic cooperation between the two sides./end
